Billa 2 beats Vijay’s Nanban for No 1 spot, Ajith thanks fans

Opening to a bumper first week collections, Ajith’s Billa 2 effect is gradually fading. The film has done exceptionally well at the Malaysian box-office but dint perform as expected in US and UK. Ajith who has already started shooting for his next with Vishnuvardhan, has finally gone public on the Billa 2 response.

In the Malaysian box-office this year, Billa 2 takes first place as the most successful Tamil film in 2012, even crossing Shankar’s Nanban and Kolaveri movie ‘3’. Moreover Billa 2 stands at No.30 overall with major Hollywood hits like The Avengers and The Amazing Spiderman, in Malaysia. “In its opening weekend, Billa II collected £ 72,120 (Rs 61.20 lakh) from 20 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 3,606, in the UK and Ireland. In the US, it collected $ 1,18,509 (Rs 64.83 lakh) on 31 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 3,823″, confirms a reliable source. Doing good business in the State in it’s former weeks, the Ajith flick is now being replaced by SS Rajamouli’s Naan Ee, that is doing exceptionally well, despite being an animation flick. In Tamil Nadu, Kasi Theatre, situated on the border of Ashok Nagar and Jaffkhanpet in the city and few other halls saw Naan Ee replacing Billa 2.Responding to the audience response in the State and abroad, hero Ajith said, “I have done my part well in Billa 2. My handwork and sincerity was true. I am not bothered about what others say. My fans have recognized my efforts. That’s enough for me.”

Here are the official figures for the Malaysian box office where Billa 2 sits at No.1 for Tamil movies in 2012:

1) Billa 2 – $906,298 (~ INR 5.02 Cr)
2) Nanban – $872,498 (~ INR 4.83 Cr)
3) 3 (Three) – $465,622 (~ INR 2.58 Cr)
