Thambi Ramaiah plays 85 yr old teacher in Neerparavai

THAMBI-RAMAIAH
Thambi Ramaiah is one mightily talented actor who was noticed mostly after his award-winning performance in Prabhu Solomon’s Mynaa which paved way for its heroine Amala Paul find her foothold in Kollywood. Ramaiah played a sub-jailor in the film and his very casual and sincere performance fetched him the national award for ‘best supporting actor’.

The films Ramaiah did after that weren’t very significant. However, sources close to the Unit of director Seenu Ramasamy’s Neerparavai say that Ramaiah has put in a ‘power-packed performance’ in the film. Seenu, whose first film Tenmerku Paruvakkaatru won the national award for ‘best regional film’, is under pressure to deliver the goods with his second venture.

Neerparavai is based on the novel Sahitya Academy-award winning novel Kadalpuraht

hilae by Thoppil Muhammed Meeran. Along with the script, Seenu has also woven the story of the pathetic plight of Tamil fishermen who get mercilessly killed by the Lankan navy. Seenu is also said to have added some ‘important inputs’ about the Catholic religion which dominates the fishermen.

Ramaiah, who has played a retired 85-year old Tamil teacher in the film, has put in his best performance as on day, it is said. For his role in the film, Ramaiah had to put on a ‘special make-up’ for more than two hours. A couple of trained make-up artistes have been specially flown in from Mumabi to apply Ramaiah’s make-up.
